Legacy Rules

Based on Pinstar’s Legacy Challenge, but with some rule tweaks and no points system. Just playing for fun!

Succession Laws

  • Gender Law: Equality – The founder may be of either gender. Both boys and girls are eligible for the title of heir.
  • Bloodline Law: Modern – All naturally born/science babies and adopted children are eligible to be named heir.
  • Heir Law: Democracy – The heir is chosen by my Tumblr followers from among the pool of heirs. Max of four children per heir. Voting will take place when I feel it fits with the story.
  • Species Law: Tolerant – The species of the child has no impact on their eligibility for heir status.

Gameplay Rules

  • No money cheats, but other cheats and mods are fair game. Please recommend some if you know any good ones!
  • No restarting after bad events; restarting to recover from a crash, glitch, bug, or other technical problem is allowed. This will happen often as my copy of the game is torrented.
  • Starting on Tail’s End in Brindleton Bay with $1800, a cot, a grill, and a punching bag.
  • Spouses, including rich Sims, can bring all of their money with them when they move in. However, if they live with others, this amount is limited to a max of $25,000, though it will differ based on which family they’re coming from.
  • The heir must always live on the legacy estate from the time they assume their duty as the heir (not including vacations and university). Once they are the heir they can never move out of the home. All of the other children in that generation, known as spares, may move or marry out.
  • Anyone in the family that dies where I can reach them will be placed in a graveyard on the legacy estate. Ghosts may be interacted with but may not be moved back in.
  • An alphabetical naming scheme will be used which means each child that is born to the heir is named using the next letter of the alphabet. No using fruit and/or music to influence the gender of an unborn child. All births will be home births.
  • Children may only be adopted as newborns or infants. I may not adopt if there are any newborns or infants (natural born/science baby or adopted) living in the house at the time and must wait for them to grow to toddlers before adopting a new one. I may change the child’s first name to fit the naming scheme.
  • Sims lifespans must be set to Normal in the gameplay menu, though i will turn off aging for all sims, played and unplayed, during vacations and university. No anti-aging items. No use of essence of life from cow plants, ambrosia, or youth potions that can be used to prolong a Sim’s life. Death flowers cannot be used to stop a Sim’s death. I may plead with the Reaper in order to save a recently dead Sim, but I may not bring a Sim back from the dead once the Reaper has taken them.
  • I will randomize traits in game as the Sims age up, but Evil and Mean Sims will be rerolled. I will select aspirations based on personality traits, but once selected I may not change a Sim’s current aspiration. The exception is when they fully complete an aspiration; when that happens, I may choose a new aspiration for them, provided it is not one they’ve already completed. Teens must always have one of the Teen aspirations, which obviously must be changed when they age up. If I marry in a spouse with the City Native aspiration, I may select a new one.
  • No use of the Wishing Well from the Romantic Garden Stuff Pack.
  • Pets are allowed, but will likely not be incorporated for a few generations.
  • Satisfaction Points may be used to purchase traits from the Seasons Expansion Pack, but no potions. I may participate in the Lottery, but no use of the Money Tree.
  • Only the heir may attend university, though it is not required. No restrictions on which university they attend.
  • The challenge ends when the 10th Generation child becomes a young adult rather than when the 10th Generation is born; either that, or when I get bored with it. It’s the ADHD, y’all!

  1. If you want to try the SNBank and SNB Bills mods by SimRealist, you can open checking/savings accounts and your bills will be much more realistic with smaller weekly utility bills and the property taxes (whic are usually included in the vanilla bills) only pop up once every four weeks. It’s much more realistic and manageable. Plus, you can open savings accounts for your kids, and set them up so that the money they make from selling things or jobs are direct deposited into their savings accounts.

      1. IKR! Property taxes were increased a long time ago. The bills used to be SO much cheaper, as I recall. Plus, once the patch for Eco Lifestyle came out, they started adding utility bills, so even the rent in apartments has increased!
